Mitchell Announces Plans to Transform Collision Repair Intake Through Automated Vehicle Inspection and Estimating

Planned integration would connect Tractable’s LumaScanner automated vehicle inspection system with Mitchell Intelligent Estimating

SAN DIEGO, Calif.—Mitchell, a leader in the development of innovative auto physical damage technology solutions, today announced plans to expand its collaboration with Tractable through a proposed, exclusive agreement focused on optimizing the vehicle intake process. By connecting Tractable’s LumaScanner vehicle inspection system with Mitchell’s automated estimating solution, Mitchell Intelligent Estimating, the companies intend to help North American multi-site operators (MSOs) and independent collision repair centers accelerate damage assessment and preliminary estimate creation.

“Every decision about a vehicle, whether to service it, repair it or sell it, depends on knowing its true condition,” said Venkat Sathyamurthy, CEO of Tractable. “Our ambition for LumaScanner is to make that knowledge available to everyone who relies on it, anytime, anywhere. Integrating LumaScanner with Mitchell’s intelligent solutions will bring that vision into the heart of collision repair, extending the value of the inspection into the estimating process itself.”

As a vehicle passes through, LumaScanner automatically inspects it and produces a condition report: a consistent, time-stamped record of the vehicle’s physical state. Once integrated with Mitchell’s cloud ecosystem, that condition report could feed Mitchell Intelligent Estimating to automatically generate a preliminary estimate for appraisers to review and edit. Together with Mitchell’s existing mobile photo-capture capabilities, the planned offering would give repairers the flexibility to document vehicle damage through either a physical or digital intake process.

In AI estimating, it is important to capture high-quality images of the damaged vehicle, which increases the accuracy and completeness of the preliminary estimate. With LumaScanner, the vehicle is driven or towed through the inspection system and the vehicle image set and condition report will be used to generate a preliminary estimate in minutes. This is designed to save time and assist in improving estimate accuracy and completeness.

“Our goal is to help collision repairers simplify the vehicle intake process by connecting innovative technologies that are designed to optimize key steps in the workflow,” said Olivier Baudoux, senior vice president of global product strategy and artificial intelligence at Mitchell. “Combining LumaScanner’s automated inspection capabilities with Mitchell’s advanced solutions, proprietary data and open, cloud-based platform is intended to give repairers a way to remove friction, improve productivity and safely return collision-damaged vehicles to the road.”

For more information about Mitchell’s intelligent solutions and the planned integration, visit the company’s booth at SEMA (#35171 in the South Upper Hall). Attendees can also visit the LumaScanner by Tractable exhibit space (#44263 in the Lower South Hall) for a demonstration of the automated vehicle inspection capabilities.
