Social Security Initiative supports and protects people with disabilities who want to reenter workforce

WAYNE, PA—May 25, 2021 - Work provides us with purposeful activity, nurturing our self-esteem, social connections, financial security, status and sense of identity. When the ability to work is taken away from us due to a debilitating injury or illness, it can have devastating effects on our physical and mental wellbeing.

That's why Genex Services is proud to announce it has become an authorized provider of the Social Security Administration's Ticket to Work program. The initiative is designed to support career development for Social Security disability beneficiaries age 18 through 64 who want to work and progress toward financial independence.

A leader in medical cost-containment and disability management services, Genex has been providing vocational and return-to-work services for more than 40 years. As a vocational rehab provider of the program, Genex assigns a certified counselor to each “ticket holder” and will work to assess and develop an employment strategy unique to each individual.

These services are designed to provide the client with the training and support needed to return to work, enter a new line of work, or enter the workforce for the first time. These include intensive training, education, rehabilitation, career counseling, job placement assistance, and benefits counseling.

The services are free to ticket holders through the Social Security Administration. The program also provides a safety net which allows participants to return to work without automatically losing access to their Social Security disability payments. If participants are unable to continue working because of the same disability, their original benefits will be expedited immediately without submitting a new application.

Ticket to Work holders also may continue to receive Medicare for more than seven years and do not need to undergo continuing disability reviews (CDR) while participating in the program and progressing toward their employment goals.

“We are honored that Genex is involved in a program designed to do what we do best here, that is, helping change lives for the better,” said Jennie Gailey, Vice President, Disability Programs at Genex. “What's great about Ticket to Work is that it allows people with disabilities an opportunity to get back to work, providing the resources they need along the way, with the ultimate goal of attaining financial independence. People with disabilities have so much to offer and this program allows them to reenter the workforce without penalty of losing their benefits. It's a win-win for everyone involved.”
