Mitchell Hits the Pavement for Road Show 2016

We kicked off our third annual Road Show last week and we couldn’t be more excited to get going. As the original visionary behind the project, Pauline Perenack, Senior Marketing Manager at Mitchell, can tell its origin story better than anyone:

“This project started out because we wanted  a way to showcase the shops we work with, and learn (and celebrate) how we’ve been able to help them build their business. Lots of travel, good company, and delicious food are just added bonuses!”

To date, our team has already trekked North America twice, and they can’t wait to do it again. In the previous two years, we’ve covered collision repair and auto body shops in Duncannon, PA, Aston, PA, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Miami, FL, Henderson, TX, Chandler, AZ, Avondale, AZ, Puyallup, WA, Mt. Vernon, WA, Vancouver, BC, Richmond, BC, Calgary, AB, Toronto, ON, Ottaway, ON, and Halifax, NS. While we’ve made some solid progress in previous trips, there is still a lot of unchartered territory to explore.

As the only service provider for auto body and collision repair shops to do a road show, we’ve learned a lot along the way—about our business, the collision repair shops we work with, and about the kind of great people that work in collision repair across the country.

For the 2016 trip, we’ll start out in Abilene then head straight to Austin. Throughout the year, the team plans to hit British Columbia, Alberta, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indianapolis, Michigan, Ontario, and Nova Scotia.

How do you pick which shops you feature?

Pauline: We select shops that are getting the most out of their Mitchell products. They come in all shapes and sizes. Weve visited small shops that were a one room bay, tucked away at the end of a dirt road. We’ve also visited big shops that had everything from a coffee bar, to a café with full Wi-Fi and incredibly comfortable, fully stocked customer waiting lounges.

Does it cost anything for them?

Pauline: Not a dime. All we ask is that you smile big for the camera and give us a great tour of your shop.

How many shops will you visit?

Pauline: Typically, we go to 2-3 shops per city, so the days are long, but exciting. On a typical road show day, we start bright and early at our first shop with a tour and meet-and-greet with the crew. Then its off to a few sales calls before visiting our next shop. We finish the day with more sales calls, and call it a day when the last shop closes.

Who do you bring with you?

Pauline:  When we arrive, the shop has already talked with FenderBender or Collision Repair Magazine, so at the shop, we have our local sales rep, the area sales director, a photographer, and myself. Sometimes we also have a videographer.

What kind of publicity do those shops get?

Pauline: They’re featured in FenderBender or Collision Repair Magazine, along with special coverage on the Mitchell website and social media shoutouts.

What is the trip like for you?

Pauline: It’s always a great time. Admittedly, things don’t always go as planned, but often those experiences make for the best stories. One time, my rental car broke down on the way to the shop. Needless to say, I ended up arriving over an hour late. But with the help of the guys there, I caught up on the tour in the shop and even had my car fixed while I was helping with a RepairCenter demo. In the end, that shop saved me from having to have the car taken to the rental company and deal with getting a whole new car.

What’s your favorite part?

Pauline: I think I can speak for everyone on the trip when I say: trying new food. Whether it’s conch fritters in Florida, Whataburger in Texas, or real Philly Cheesesteaks in (you guessed it), Philadelphia, we cant wait to eat our way through any fine city.

But in all seriousness, nothing is more educational (or fun) for us than to meet our customers right where they are: in their auto body shops. We hope to see you on the road soon in a town near you.

We'd love to hear how Mitchell has helped you.
